Everyone has a bad patch in their relationship, a period with more tension or discord. Tension mainly increases during life events such as a serious illness, moving, or having children. Problems also arise if one partner has had an affair. Your relationship may land in a crisis, and saving the relationship requires effort from both partners. Waiting for your spouse to make amends and resolve problems in your relationship can cause further irritation and you land in a vicious circle where you both lose sight of each other. In couples’ therapy you look at how you can improve your relationship and, should it be necessary, how to end a relationship.
At Psychologenpraktijk In Balance we first work on improving communication between partners (learning how to really hear each other) and from there on, we work on repairing and healing, using elements taken from the Emotion Focused Therapy.
